Smart shopping starts before you reach the checkout. Set a budget, list what you actually need, and separate it from what simply caught your eye. This one habit prevents most impulse buys.
Compare prices across at least two or three sellers. Mall retailers, online marketplaces, and neighborhood stores often price the same item very differently, and shipping or delivery fees can erase a “discount.”
Watch for genuine sale seasons such as payday weekends, 9.9 and 11.11, and end-of-year clearances. Legitimate discounts show the original and reduced price clearly. Be wary of prices that look too good to be true.
Finally, check return and warranty terms before paying. A slightly higher price from a seller with a clear returns policy is often the better deal in the long run.
